The same photographer looking off to one side, her camera in her hands

About

Hello, I’m Freya.

I’ve been photographing weddings since 2016, when a friend asked me to do hers because I was the only person she knew with a decent camera. I was terrified. It went well, and two of her guests booked me before the cake was cut.

These days I photograph around twenty-five weddings a year, plus elopements and family sessions in between. I live in Wrenmoor with my partner, a very old cat and far too many film cameras.

How I work

Less directing, more noticing.

Wedding guests at a round table, laughing and leaning on each other

01

Mostly unposed

I’ll ask for a few group photos and twenty minutes of the two of you. The rest of the day I keep out of the way and photograph what’s actually happening, which is nearly always better than anything I could set up.

02

Natural light, wherever I can

I’d rather move you a metre towards a window than put a flash in your face. For dark venues and the first dance I bring a small light, but most of my work happens with what’s already there.

The small things too

Your grandmother’s ring, the flowers your sister grew, the handwritten seating plan. I make time for the details you spent months on, then get back to the people.

Where I work

Based in Wrenmoor. Most of my weddings are within an hour of the studio, on the moors, the coast and the old mill towns in between.

Further afield is fine too. I’ve photographed weddings in the Highlands, Cornwall and one memorable week in Sicily.
